THE BIG SLOW DOWN

Now that we’ve learnt what life is like when we slow down…

How do we hold onto this new stillness? How do we re-enter the workplace, school, the community and not reinstate the crazy hustle and angst that once filled our lives?

Why Tai Chi?

Tai Chi has been trying to teach us this valuable lesson since it was first introduced to the western world. Perhaps the language and culture were too alien, the concepts not clearly translated. Whatever those reasons once were, Chi Generation has removed them from the equation, making the art of Tai Chi accessible to all and its daily practice more achievable than ever.

Tai Chi is a series of movements (called forms) that help gather and move qi through the body and mind. These practices aim to refresh a tired body, awaken the weary mind, and bring light and lightness to our lives. Over 2020, we were stopped in our tracks, prompting the realization that perhaps we were on the wrong track. With this dawning, Tai Chi and its sister art, Qigong, have come into their own. While these practices have defined physical movements, the art becomes a part of daily life – realigning posture, learning to breathe again, learning to laugh and enjoy every moment, bringing awareness to how we live and making it easier to create a healthier pace and outlook. Why not learn to hold that feeling of stillness, of ‘no need to rush’, of ‘we’ll get there eventually’…?

Chi Generation Curriculum

The Wudang Bamboo Form, the Yin Water Form and the Fu Chen Feng are all forms created with an Australian mindset as core. Having trained to international standards and spent 25 years, so far, studying these arts under Masters in China and here in Australia, Chi Generation’s principal, Su Rule, has developed the unique Chi Generation curriculum, addressing the gulf between Chinese and Australian cultures, making it possible for us all to learn and experience Tai Chi and Qigong as the mindful, energizing exercise it was always intended to be.

The Original Environmentalists

These arts are part of the indigenous culture of China. They were developed within the philosophy of Taoism which extends into traditional Chinese medicine, teaching and helping people to live in nature – a natural life, close to the land, using and caring for the environment as if their lives depended on it – with respect and an understanding of the life force – qi – energy – that runs through everything in the universe.

And here we are – living on the land of the oldest living culture on earth who hold the same deep love and respect for this environment, who once lived (some still) like the Taoists of China. The parallels between these two cultures reflect the philosophies of indigenous people around the planet. In practising Chi Generation Tai Chi & Qigong in Australia, we are walking with the ancients of two living cultures – acknowledging where we are, who we are, building respect and deepening our understanding of the connection we each have with everything in the universe.

What is Tai Chi and Qigong really…?

Both are physical practices that require thought and concentration to learn, but are moving meditations from the outset. As you become more aware of your movements, your energy will begin to settle and while you become physically fitter, stronger, more balanced and coordinated, your mind will become calmer, thought patterns less random and less prone to stress and worry. These arts help us to connect with the real world. If you can practice outdoors – barefoot on grass, in sand on a beach, touching the earth in a forest – the connection becomes stronger.

Where to now?

Chi Generation anticipates the many questions from beginners and sets the learning process in motion with foundation classes and workshops to introduce newcomers, and re-ground experienced practitioners, in the Wudang Australia style of Tai Chi. The Chi Generation website and newsletter have details of classes and workshops available in 2021. Chi Generation tuition is also available online, on dvd, and in private and corporate sessions by appointment.
